What I want to say when you yell go back to your country

What I want to say is:

You are

my country.

Remember

when we balanced along our borders

you swaddled like a baby

in my arms powerful and precious

across dizzying dunes of pink sand

under the wide night sky ripe with planets

warmed by each other's blood and laughter, conversations with dying stars

and the impossibility of being alive

together?

But I don't say anything

because I am 10 years old and

as they flicker from blue to brown

I hear your eyes whisper
